Cape Willoughby Lightstation
Situated on the coast of the Cape Willoughby National Park, this was the first lighthouse to be built in South Australia, back in 1852. The lookout tower at the top offers stunning panoramic views of the Kangaroo Island coastline. Guided tours of the lighthouse are run daily.
Penneshaw Market
Sample and purchase a range of fresh local produce from the very people who grow, farm or make it at the Penneshaw Markets. From October to April, market days are held on the first Sunday of every month (9am – 1pm).
False Cape Wines
Enjoy quality award-winning wines and deluxe platters at False Cape Wines Cellar Door – open from 11am to 5pm daily! With a kids nature playground and farm animal viewing, there is something here for the whole family!
Dudley Wines
Open from 10:30am to 4:30pm daily, come and enjoy food and wine at Dudley’s Clifftop Cellar Door, while soaking up the spectacular view across Backstairs Passage to mainland Australia. If wine isn’t your thing, Dudley wines also stock a beautiful range of Wool and Natural Fibre clothing and accessories made from wool, cashmere, bamboo, rayon and silk.
Sunset Food & Wine
Sunset Food and Wine is an award-winning, modern bistro which overlooks the beautiful American Beach. Open seasonally Tuesday – Saturday, be sure to call ahead and make your reservation at one of the best restaurants on the island.
Penneshaw Hotel / Penny’s Restaurant
Located on North Tce, Penneshaw. The Penneshaw Hotel (aka The Penny) offers both inside and alfresco dining areas in a relaxed, casual setting.
If you’re looking for something more sophisticated, Penny’s Restaurant is the place for you. With a modern Australian cuisine incorporating a wide range of SA produce, you won’t be disappointed.

Fantastic coffee, glasses of local Wines, Beer and Gin, and light meals in a, relaxed fun garden setting. Chapman River
Flowing through the Lashmar Conservation park and into the ocean at Antechamber Bay, Chapman River is the ideal location for swimming, fishing, birdwatching and canoeing on Kangaroo Island!
If you love the outdoors, we highly recommend visiting the Chapman River.
KI offers some of the best fishing anywhere in SA and there are many great spots to throw a line in & try your luck.
Penneshaw has a great little marina where you can launch a boat, but if you don’t have your own boat we suggest the following:
- Jetty fishing from the Penneshaw Jetty
- Beach fishing at Hogs Beach, American Beach or Browns Beach
- Rock fishing around Hog Point and Christmas Cove (the marina)
- Surf Fishing at Pennington Bay & Antechamber Bay (take the surfboards in case the fish aren’t on the bite)

Details: Sealink operates two luxury vessels that take just 45 minutes to travel between Cape Jervis (2-hour drive from Adelaide) and Penneshaw.
